Crab-Stuffed Filet Mignon Prime Steak
On its own, this romantic surf and turf meal is amazing, but add a nice bottle or red wine, a side of fresh, steamed asparagus, crusty dinner rolls, and a chocolate dessert and you have a romantic feast that will soften even the most jaded hearts.
This recipe can be made with either broiled or grilled filet mignon prime steak.
What you Need
- 2 tablespoons of freshly shredded parmesan cheese
- ¼ teaspoon of fresh black pepper, coarsely ground
- 1 green onion
- 1 teaspoon of melted butter
- ½ cup of lump crabmeat
- 2 6oz Meat the Butcher filet mignon prime steaks
Putting it Together
Pre-heat your oven broiler to 500F or turn your outdoor grill to high.
Finely dice the entire green onion.
Drain your crabmeat before mixing it, the parmesan cheese, the melted butter, the diced onion together. Once the ingredients are thoroughly whipped together, set them aside and turn your attention to the filet mignon steaks.
After rinsing the steaks and drying them with paper towel, run some olive oil, salt, and pepper on their exterior. Not only does this enhance the filet steak’s already delectable flavor, but it also helps crisp up the outside edges.
Use a large meat knife and make a horizontal cut. The cut should be approximately ½ inch deep. Take your crab meat mixture and use it to fill the slit. Each steak should require about a ½ cup of the crab meat mixture. Many people wrap a string around the filet after filling which holds the filet shut, making it easier to flip from onside to the other while cooking.
Broil or grill your filet mignon prime steak until it reaches our preferred level of doneness.
Puff Pastry Filet Mignon Prime Steak
This unique method of preparing beef filet steak is both a visual and oral delight. This recipe is a hit when it’s paired with a good red wine, roasted red skin potatoes, artichoke hearts, and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.
What You’ll Need
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper, coarsely ground
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry
- 1 garlic clove
- 2 tablespoons of softened butter
- 2 slices of Muenster cheese
- 1 medium egg
- 2 6oz Meat the Butcher filet mignon prime steaks
To Make the Accompanying Sauce
- ¼ teaspoon of Dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp of prepared horseradish
Putting it All Together
A few hours prior to starting the meal, place the frozen puff pastry in your refrigerator so it has time to thaw.
Gently beat the egg
Mince the garlic clove, shoot for fine, but firm pieces.
Pre-heat your oven to 425°F.
Remove your filet mignon prime steaks from the fridge, rinse them and use a piece of paper to blot away the excess water before placing both of them on a baking sheet. Rub the tops with a little softened butter and add a dash of pepper to each one.
Slide the steaks into your oven and let them bake for about ten minutes. Take them out of the oven and transfer them directly to your fridge where they’ll chill.
Unroll your puff pastry and use a pizza cutter or knife to make two squares that measure 7 inches in area. Do NOT discard your spare bits of puff pastry.
Massage the steaks with the minced garlic before placing one slice of cheese on each steak. Move the steaks onto your square bits of pastry, placing them cheese side down.
Brush a thin layer of egg on the edge of the square before bringing the corners up so that the completely cover the filet mignon prime steaks. Pinch the edges together. Set them on the baking pan, seam side down.
Use a knife to make a few small slits in the pastry top and brush the tops with a light layer of beaten egg.
Use your hands or a cookie cutter to turn the remaining bits of pastry into fun shapes. Brush these bits with the last of your egg and arrange them around each of the steaks.
Tuck everything into the oven and let it bake for 20-25 minutes at 425°. If you prefer a medium or well-done filet mignon prime steak, plan on adding an extra 10-15 minutes to the cooking time.
While the filet mignon steaks bake. Mix the horseradish and mustard together. You can either drizzle this over the steaks when they’re done baking, or use it as a dip for the spare bits of puff pastry.
